Maggi is our Group Exercises Instructor at Emma James Corporate gym at the Foreign Office.
She is a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Personal Trainer and Studio Instructor who has several years’ experience where fitness has always been an integral part of her life. It started out as a passion for keeping and being fit, and later this ethos evolved into an occupation that she started eight years ago.
She is passionate about exercise and this comes through during her classes as she doesn’t consider this to be just her job as it is also her hobby. She always tries to inspire others with her passion and energy.
As a sports therapist my primary passion is around sporting injuries and the strength, fitness, wellbeing and resilience of each individual in their entirety.
I have recently had experience of working within a professional football team at a premier league, working with the first team and youth teams down to under 9’s. During this I gained experience and an interest in acute injury management, from soft tissue and massage intervention right through to personal training and strength and conditioning techniques to prevent re-injury.
I use a multitude of treatment techniques from Acupuncture to manual therapy, massage, strength and conditioning and functional rehabilitation.
I also use massage and personal training techniques alongside my other treatment techniques to ensure the highest level of customer care and service is undertaken.
My personal interest sits within the lower limb and considering all injuries from sporting to occupational injuries.
I have recently also expanded my skill mix to further include wellness and coaching techniques to improve employees engagement, with ergonomics intervention and wellness behaviour within our clinic in the foreign office Westminster. This allows me to see how patients and staff are interacting with their work environment and how the equipment we use and the postures we adopt, influence our ability to function pain free.
This is a very exciting and new element to my practice.
James qualified as a Sports Therapist from the University of Hertfordshire with a Bachelor of Science with Honours Degree. James has worked in various different environments and specialises in Musculoskeletal conditions. He is currently studying MSc Physiotherapy at St. George’s University of London.
James has completed an internship at a successful premiership rugby outfit treating full time first team athletes and also time with the senior and junior academy set-up. During which time he was able to assess, treat and rehabilitate using manual therapies as a primary treatment modality alongside sound rehabilitation and strengthening techniques, whilst learning and incorporating taping and other therapeutic modalities.
Alongside his studies James also worked with Oaklands College as the sports therapist, providing ongoing session cover, whilst also managing player return to sport using an exercise focused approach. He also had the opportunity to work as a part-time soft tissue therapist at another premiership rugby club and clinic based work to improve his manual techniques and see a variety of patients.
Having graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a 1st Class Honours Degree in BSc Sports Therapy, I pride myself in giving the highest level of care to my clients and am passionate about holistic care, treating both from the top down and bottom up.
I have completed internships in professional football whilst studying at University, these include Barnet FC and Tottenham Hotspur Women FC. During this time, I was able to assess, treat and rehabilitate using a range of treatment techniques including manual therapy, massage, ultrasound, electrotherapy, graston tool techniques, shockwave therapy and cryotherapy.
I am fortunate to continue working part time with Tottenham Ladies helping them strive in the Women’s Super League, which gives me a fantastic combination of sporting and clinical environments.
When I’m not in the clinic or on the football field, I train and compete as a member of the Great Britain Women’s White-Water Rafting Team. Over the past five years I have had the honour to represent my country in many World and European Championships, winning six gold, four silver and four bronze medals. This has allowed me to interact with a variety of different cultures in countries such as Indonesia, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Italy, Slovakia. This year I am travelling to China with the GB Teams as their Sports Therapist which I am very much looking forward to!
Personal Trainer and Gym Manager
Having spent the last six years working in an office and not feeling completely satisfied I decided to do my Personal Training course, turning my passion into my career. I completed my Level 2 and Level 3 with Premier Global.
I have always been active, playing a lot of sport at school, horse riding, running and recently participating in triathlons. I have now completed 4 sprint triathlons and working towards doing more next summer and increasing the distance.
Keeping fit, healthy and active has helped me massively with my body confidence and mental health. I believe fitness can help anyone feel good about themselves, be social and have fun.
